This machine is far more intuitive and easy to navigate than my ArcCaptain MIG200.
100% they over loade it ive done like dozen of shackles and springs
arc captain's promo dept has been doing great work with youtubers. i bought their little mig after watching your channel a couple years ago and have been very happy with it, and their flux wire spools. likely about to buy a bigger one from them.
Love this machine I’ve been using it for about 3 years for my little BBQ business as well as taking it to job sites for repair it’s a great machine especially for the price
This was done before any affiliation with arc captain actually. But after working with them for a bit now and using the tig200, mig200 and 205DP my thoughts remain the same. They are good machines for the price I haven’t had an issues and I’ve made a lot of good stuff with em!
Bro, i am a welder and your welds look AWESOME 🤘, GREAT JOB, i purchased one of these welding machines and they are actually really good. New subscriber here 👍😊
Agreed with your earth ground comment. I'm a Certified Welder with a Degree in Welding and own 4 of these Arc Captains, (2x MIG200 and 2x TIG200) and the earth grounds are completely unacceptable. Had to replace all mine just to mitigate a melting danger. AC really needs to get away from copper-cladded aluminum wiring even though they're cheap, they're a fire hazard IMO. The machines operate FLAWLESSLY in my experience, just the grounding cables need to be higher quality.
I bought one and it welds smoother than the cheaper brand that I had. On another guys video I notice the voltage was flashing like it was adjusting as he weld. Maybe that's what makes it weld so smooth.
I noticed the numbers changing on the welder as you were welding. It's like the welder is constantly adjusting the voltage as you were welding to keep the perfect arc. I just bought one and I love it.
I have not yet tried SS with it but they di offer stainless mig wire on their site. Based on my experience so far I woild assume it would do well for stainless. I am currently working on aluminum with their spool gun so if that works as well as mild steel then I would feel safe trying stainless. Thanks for the feedback!
I’ve had great results with them
Every machine runs differently and needs to be fine tuned. I was running/testing the factory presets.
Cheers! Definitely address the ground, mines be strong ever since no issues
I bought my MIG200 based on your recommendation, and have had MUCH more success than my old bargain Lincoln. I'm a complete novice, and have had really good results
I tried everything with the Everlast and could never get the sizzle. I was getting and still have been getting great results with the Arccaptain. I’m no pro and that’s kind of the point. If you have to be a pro to get the machine running nice, it’s not a good entry level machine.
Yea this is a perfect beginner welder. I’m a redseal millwright by trade. This machine has a sync function where all you have to do is set voltage and it will match wire speed and adjust automatically as you weld. I choose full manual mode but I’ve tried this function before and it works extremely well and would be awesome for a beginner to learn what settings work best
😊...3 years of abuse and that thing still welds great
I have both and have used both quite a bit. The 250 has more power obviously...can't say there is any other difference
Before I switched to my Everlast, I ran it against my Lincoln 110v transformer machine and it did much better. Then the Arccaptain outperforms the Everlast.
I've had this welder for 3 years now and i love it. The syn mode does work great, although i do prefer to set it up myself. I don't want to brag, but I am definitely the best welder within 300sq ft of my garage, just saying. 😂
Well thank you! Leading every day, still loving this little machine
I’ve used it for the last couple weeks and really like it so far.
I’ve done quite a bit of welding using the syn mode since this video. It’s definitely a good little unit. My favorite for sheet metal welding so far. I’m super excited that Jeff is learning new skills and has been helping on his car every step of the way.
That’s awesome! Glad to hear it’s working out for you. I’m still liking mine months later no issues at all
I bought this MIG 200 and recently the plasma 50. Same issue with the grounding clamp. It's a great machine though, I got it for $300-ish on amazon and the plasma 50 for just under $200. Also have the titanium flux for little jobs. I've made at least 50x the cost in 8 months.
Hey! I’m Canadian and yes build quality is pretty shitty. You’ll feel the flimsy metal, the latches that don’t secure very well and pop out when you roll it around the shop for yourself:) although after a year of hard use I’ve been happy with its real world performance! Thing lays down awesome welds and is consistent. The only actual problem I’ve had is that the ground cable and clamp is to small and will overheat and start to melt with mild use, so I upgraded to a 0 gauge wire and a heavy duty clamp. No issues since 👌 Cheers
La mia non salda bene in modalità manuale se la imposto in automatico è perfetta
I bought one for Christmas, once wire speed/voltage got dialed in it works great. I had to teach myself to MIG weld so some gnarly welds at first. Great value and quality.
Yes. That is all I use. Great price and works great too
Bough it, use it for one job and it practically pay for itself and than some …. It’s a cheap welder that does the job …
i been running mine about 97 to 105 on 7018 for a year now no problem at all I only use forney rods starts easy every time not like the problem you are having but then again I didn't alter anything and use the lead that came with it
The only thing an LN-25 can do that the MIG200 can't is if you want to use wire larger than .045"...I don't think you can get drive rolls or gun liners for the MIG200 that are bigger than .045" I have four LN-25's that I almost never use now because I switched to the lightweight ARCCAPTAIN machines and the convenience of only pulling out one single lightweight power cord instead of dragging heavy expensive welding leads around. In the last 2 years the only time I used one of my LN-25's was when I wanted to run some .068" diameter flux core
It definitely proved me wrong! It’s a good machine after a year of hard use
It’s not to bad! Not perfectly flat but it gets the job done for small jobs
I bought this to use on my projects working great so far better than my old craftsman mig with gas welded some 5/8 steel with out issue
Mines been great the last year! Just make sure to replace the ground wire right away to something a bit thicker and a stronger clamp then you’re good to go!
Thanks for the info. I bought the Arccaptain 200 as well and very happy with it on 220v. You are a good welder to do that with 110v. Impressive. Just a tip for your viewers. If you are going to try tig welding with it, buy a spool gun. If you try and run an aluminium roll through it, you just get bird nest after birdnest. Cheers
Yes I have. Everything I weld is 1/8” or less so it has no problem. When I weld 3/16” I bevel the edge to get full penetration. I did some 1/4” on my spindles and I beveled then did multi-pass with the tig. No problems
Bought the mig 205mp. It does mig, tig, stick and cleaning. The mig performs better exponentially than my Lincoln. The tig is quite good for a newb like myself. Any of the YouTubers I watch are still using their machines a couple of years later, so I’m beginning to believe they last at least a couple of years. Oddly enough, I bought it off Temu for $800CDN, which was over $400 cheaper than anywhere else. I used Rakuten during a cash back event and got another $150 back. Then Temu dropped the price a couple of weeks later and I got another $110 back. When the welder arrived it was from the same warehouse that arccaptain ships from here in Ontario, Canada, so it arrived quickly. The. Only thing I wish it had was AC tig for aluminum
High hopes, low expectations. But after 6 months of hard use, I can say it is in fact not shitty.
No worries! I paid for this with my own money. And after having it about 6 months I can say it’s been amazing. Been through about 5 11lb spools of wire without a single issue. It’s made me a lot of money building rock sliders, bumpers and other 4x4 fabrication type projects!
Thanks for the reply Karl! I ended up buying one, and I have no fear of welding now. It just makes welding so much easier.
I'm a welder/CWI and bought one a while back just to put it through the paces. I ran a flat position groove weld test (with backing) using .030 flux core wire on 110V. The machine performed flawlessly. Never hit the duty cycle, penetration was excellent. Im actually considering setting up 2 Arc Captains in my welder testing shop strictly for gas shielded MIG. (Most MIG testing is performed on 3/8" or less)
It’s definitely a great welder just reviewed mine after 8 months and it does weld really clean and consistent 👌
Only bad I’ve found so far is the ground clamp and cable and that it didn’t come with a .023 drive roller. I haven’t had any problems with it over the last few months of almost daily use!
@74willy81hey thanks for the feedback! I did end up changing out my ground cable and clamp to a higher quality clamp and heavier cable. And you’re correct I was able to source a .023” roller easily, but I was a bit bummed out it didn’t come with it. As far as reliability goes, I’ve done through 3 almost 4 11lb rolls of .030” wire and I haven’t had a single problem and I’ve made lots of money with this welder building rock sliders, bumpers and other offroad parts. So I’ve for my moneys worth and then some. So I am happy!
Yes mine came in Volts and inches per minute(which is what I’m used to so I like that) I’ve ran through 3 11lb spools of .030” er70s-6 wire and it hasn’t skipped a beat. With that being said I am currently replacing the ground clamp and cable to heavier gauge wire and a more sturdy clamp as it starts to get very soft and hot under heavy usage. Hope this helps, feel free to ask more questions I’m happy to help in any way that I am able too.
I just got mine delivered today- went home and played with stick welding for a little while (3/32" 7018, 120V, 76-80 Amps). Did just fine, but I do need to practice and get my form back. And get my hands on some relatively clean practice plates.
2 months later and it’s still working great and no further complaints other than what I mentioned in this video. The welder has paid for itself and then some
100% agree! This was the first time plugging this thing in and welding with it.. I’ve got the settings much more dialed in a few months later.
Quick update, if you order the mig 200 now, it comes with a 240 plug installed, and it does come with a converter plug to drop to 120. So it's reverse of what he has in this video. This machine is a damn work horse and will run like a top. I have mine for 6 months and ive put it through the ringer. I absolutely run it to the ground every day. With that 60% duty cycle, it will just keep running. You can also swap out the torch, from their basic torch, to a Lincoln or Miller style torch from their website, each costs less than 100 bucks for a 10ft torch. The spool gun costs around 170 which is cheap and now you can weld aluminum. This machine is insanely good for the price. I can't speak highly enough about it. I've welded everything from stainless steel 18 guage, up to 1/2 inch plate. Penetration is on par with Miller and Lincoln, quality of weld the same. I swear by this brand and their customer service answers almost immediately and they support American military, which is weird for a Chinese company but I thought it was an awesome touch. They'll cut you a discount if you contact em first. I swear if you buy an arc captain machine, you won't regret it.
@luckydrifts4871 when I said both I meant because I have the mig 200 and the cut 50 plasma cutter. I run the hell out of both.
@luckydrifts4871 works like a champ. Use them both almost everyday. Put them through a lot of work No issues yet, other than the ground cable was too thin. Upgraded to a 2 guage cable, no issues. Runs like a top.
Right on Peter. Stoked you saved a few bucks. Seriously, I still use this welder all the time
Used it the past 3 days. Great welder for the price. Thanks for watching.
Downhill mig. I agree completely. I use it all the time. It makes beautiful welds that are burned in nice.
I have one of these and their plasma cutter also. Seem like real good machines for a beginner like myself. You shared a lot of stuff here that really helped me out. Thanks!
@brianblack6256 i bought it, I can tell you the 110 is not good for much else other than sheet metal. 220 it's an entirely different machine. And to be honest, I run much better welds with the arc captain than I do with the Esab rebel. The stick welding function runs like butter. Feels like a crayon gliding over hot metal.
I'm still using mine...great lil' job doozer
Great video! Bought one and love it!
Ordered one August 2024 Speed and wire size now appear to be listed imperial instead of metric, power cord is 220 with 110 adapter. I think I'll Love this little machine. Was having a hard time learning on my Hobart handler 140 this machine makes learning alot easier.
I have two of these MIG200's and can vouch for their quality at this price point. ArcCaptain has really hit the nail on the head with these units. I know not all of their products hit their amperage rating but they're smooth and HIGHLY diversified which makes them a jack of all trades per se, AGAIN, at this price point. I love mine and they just keep welding! Great review Karl!
I reviewed the ARCCAPTAIN MIG 200 on my channel too and I still feature it from time to time when I use it on welding jobs....love it....I tried to burn it up and couldn't do it...I ran it so hard the coating was melting off of the welding cables but it just kept welding. Did you notice the light inside the cabinet to help you see the drive roll area?...that's a thoughtful feature. I'm using the MIG 200 on site now welding thin galvanized steel on some bleachers at baseball field. I really like the ARCCAPTAIN flux core wire on that stuff. I tried ARCCAPTAIN wire against Lincoln NR-211 and found that I like the ARCCAPTAIN flux core wire better. Great review you...thank you
I have a 25ft. 10ga and it works just fine.
Let me start by saying that I absolutely love the channel and the content you put out Karl. Watched this review and decided to pull the trigger on the welder and arccaptians plasma cut50. I was just getting ready to replace the circuit board in my Hobart for the second time. It is now on the shelf. This Mig200 welds better than the Hobart by far. I have been surprised at the functionality and performance of this machine. The Cut50 plasma performs equally as well. Thanks for the review Karl, would have never purchased these without it.
Nice review! I bought one last year and I have been really happy with it. FYI, the stick welding mode is real. 7018 worked great!
My brother bought a inverter welder similar to that . First time we used it I welded 8mm plate so I turned it up all the way. I quickly realised wow that's way too high. So after using it for 20 minutes I asked how much he paid ( $500 Aus). I quickly transferred $500 to his account and his new welder, was now my new welder😂. 3 years later everything from panel steel to structural I can't fault it. And I transport it often very sturdy machines. 👍
I bought one on the first release I paid way less I like it
Bought this welder for building my 58 Apache before seeing this video. I was nervous but happy it got your approval. I sure like mine so far. Excited to buy a tig gun for it down the road
Great machine. Had a couple of cheaper myself. One you get to regulate the weld by travel speed and time in the weld pool. It welded everything on the same setting. It could weld anything however . Happily joined big stuff and thin material had to be a series of starts. The next one went upmarket by double the price and lower rated amperage . Stil Chinese build with many options but no spot weld . Well this was interesting and a real fine cheapie. not a bad demo Karl.
Awesome review. I bought one of these a month ago and love it
Welcome to the arccaptian fam , ive been using one for about a year and have made a ton of how to videos on them, there a great lil welder also the tig is pretty good!! Keep up the Rad work!!!
I have this welder and im happy with it. Currently running .030 flux. Since i dont have a gas bottle. Still trying to get the settings dialed in to weld 16 gauge and 18 gauge sheet metal.
I've bought tooliom plasma and 200 amperage mig and 200 Amp pulse tig they weld and cut great and all 3 were less the 900 bucks
I’ve had mine for like a week, Love it!!!
Anyone find the Mig gun uncomfortable? Very little room to use my other hand for balance and my hand gets tired way sooner. The Yeswelder torch is longer and much easier to use. I really like the welder itself.
Did you watch the video?...the very first thing I did was stick weld 7018 on 110 volt...I said in the video that if the thing doesn't run a good 7018 on 110 volt then the review is over...it did great on 110 volt with 7018.
I just took delivery of my arccaptain mig 200 today. I played with it for a while with some 0.035 self shielding flux core wire and seems to be a decent little welder. I love the fact that at 200 amps it has a 60% duty cycle, and 100% duty cycle at 155 amps as I'm used to 600amp 100% duty cycle machines at work. Most inexpensive mig welders are only 20% or 30%! Now i believe the arc force adjustment is mostly for stick welding so I'm pretty sure that 3rd knob is off for mig and tig.
Hope you like it I'm impressed with mine
MIG = PUSH... Very, VERY limited review despite it's plethora of other available functions. Love mine!
I have...I like the features. The stinger wand broke the 1st day but the company replaced it right away. I used the ARCCAPTIN 0.30/8mm flux core wire. Not sure if its me but it spews a lot of hot beads@aparisi59
DC only . It welds aluminum 4043 with the mig gun , no spool gun required and it has pulse. I was very skeptical when I bought it , but am amazed how well it runs for the price and the quality of the welds it puts down. I haven't used dual shield flux cored with it. I have a Primeweld mig 285 that kicks ass with dual shield flux cored.
I'm used to 3 phase heavy-duty machines - used them for work years - I now run tiny "Chinese" welders that look like toys & run off 220V. Never met a damn thing I can't weld with my "Toy" welders. I wish I had these "toys" decades ago - would have saved me lugging heavy machines around. Don't ever bother with gas anymore - I run flux core or use stick. If I had the money back that I wasted on gas over them same decades, I could go buy a Ferrari.
I get into it in part 2...stay tuned Contact tips and gun parts from Harbor Freight are exact fit for this ARCCAPTAIN gun...I grabbed a Vulcan flux gun cover and a huge pack of Chicago Electric contact tips from Harbor Freight and they worked great....you'll also see in part 2 that the dense connectors in the front for the cables are the same connectors that my Primeweld machine has...I didn't see nothing weird or hard to get on this machine and I goofed with it quite a bit Nothing weird about the wire spools it takes either...I tried several from the one or two pound spools to the ten or twelve pound spools and they all worked great
Stay tuned for part 2....I run 3/16" E7014 into the valley of a 2×2×3/8" angle iron and didn't give it much of a break between rods...backside of the angle glowing orange I can't tell ya numbers about exact output but I'll tell ya for sure it's a plenty
Hopefully this helps, when you’re welding the aluminum on the “non synergistic” setting and your wire feed only went up to 140, look below 140 for their unit of measure. It’s metric so it’s actually 14.0 meters/min which translates to 551 inches per minute. I had to get used to converting that number and just googled the different values and made a chart in sharpie on what m/min was as ipm. It confused me at first, but I had to remember a lot of other places measure wire feed speed in meters/min. Thanks for the great video
I plan on making a comparison video between the 250 or 205 yes welder and the arc captain 200. To keep it simple I will say that the arc captain welds better in general. The arc captain is more accessible on the inside when changing drive rolls. The only thing the yes welder has going for it which is better is the consumable set up. I plan on ordering the upgraded mig whip from yes welder 15’ and using it on the arc captain. As far as machine longevity I have used the yes welder a lot more since I have had it almost a year vs the arc captain months. My only complaint with the arc captain is 100 percent the consumables. Which would be fixed with the upgraded whip. Hope this helps
