Hey! I have an Eastwood ac/dc Tig 200 that I'vr owned for about 8 years. It did the job. We recently got the PrimeWeld 225X ac/dc and we like it much better. Customer service is also great! Overall, both options do the job, though. We just prefer PrimeWeld.
Bought my first welder 10 years ago to work on some basic auto projects and random stuff. Went with millermatic 211 inverter version. Got an everlast 140st suitcase to try some stick and try lift arc tig. About 3 years ago I got a primeweld 225x tig to be able to do aluminum at home and got their cut 60 plasma at the same time. I've had great luck and good use out of all them! That little miller has taken beatings and just keeps going though!
I have a Miller 215. Love it for MIG work. But I would never consider a multi process welder again. Primeweld 225 for TIG. It is NOT a "production" machine, but has worked excellent for my hobby-level learning. A half dozen friends have tried mine and bought one as well. Hard to beat for the price, and it can be set up with a liquid cooled torch.
I have a primeweld 225 pretty nice .after trying a arc captain 205mp which blew up on me after plugging it in .. my problem with all these machines you barely see end users using them. It's all promoted by welders that when they actually do their own work, they're using the lincolns and millers . I've decided to go back to lincoln. And i'm very happy, their machines are robust.Could be used professionally and beat on all day and customer service actually speaks english. And they answer the phone !! These machines are good for people that put them on four times a year
Excellent review. I took delivery of one of these PrimeWeld TIG 225 machines in late July 2024. It's been flawless. I agree with everything you said about it. I should have ordered it with a 25 foot hose on the torch so I recently upgraded it with a 25' CK Superflex hose. Other upgrades: Changed the ground clamp to one of the cast brass ones from Harbor Freight. Extended the stich and ground leads to 25'. I found I used the torch switch quite often so I added a TIGButton analog torch current control. Since then PrimeWeld has come out with rotary and linear torch mounted current controls and a cordless foot pedal as accessories. Would I buy it again? Oh yeah.
HAD MINE 3 YEARS AND I LOVE IT
I have a primeweld 225 with a cooler...it really does a good job. Service is top notch..
I've got a primeweld 225 tig with the water cooler...no problems yet, and when I have questions they're always available. Great service..
The 225x I have is a high frequency start, no scratch, no lift, get the electrode close, hit the pedal and go.
Well that's better than Harbor Freight gives on their machines
This machine will weld aluminum at 120 volts but the amperage output is only half of what you get at 240 volts, plus the 120 volt circuit needs to be rated to handle 30 amps load as I explained in the video
Minimum amps is 10 amps so it will handle fine jobs that require low amperage. As far as pulse settings go, that’s something you would have to experiment with depending on what you’re welding. I’ve had this machine since May of 2024 and I have been very happy with it! It has great reviews from a lot of purchasers and great warranty and customer service. I have a link in the video description if you decide to pull the trigger on it. Thanks for the comment and for watching.
I've had my prime weld for over 2 years now. I've never had ONE SINGLE ISSUE. I've welded with very VERY expensive welders and the prime weld has held up with the big dogs. It comes with a ck also.
I have had this welder for 9 years still working great .
I love my Primeweld 225. Let's me get in the game for small dollars. Had it four years now with no issues.
Love my primeweld 225.
My cooler works on 220 v I've got the 225 tig..welds great doesn't burn your hand. I got the ck 20
Yes it is. I've been very happy with mine!
I have a Prime Weld Tig 225ACDCP A great Welder.
Thanks. Good review. I have the PrimeWeld 225 with the stock CK17 torch. It's an impressive machine. I've been completelysatisfied by the welder. There may be a water cooled torch in my future. .
Thank you! I'm really enjoying this machine. My youngest son knocked a hole one of the pontoons on his pontoon boat, so we cut out the bad part, had some sheet aluminum cut out and rolled to make the repair. Worked out great using this machine.
I just do the best I can to give it a good test in the time I have. I still think this is one of the best budget options available and it has good support. I've not seen anything less expensive than this one that delivers as much value as this package. The only direct to consumer brand out of all that I've personally tried that actually lives up to the performance of a Miller Dynasty is HTP (made in Italy). They cost significantly more than PrimeWeld, though much less than Miller.
First I want to say that my heart goes out to you about your son. I can't even begin to imagine the hurt! Second, I think I definitely made a good choice with the PrimeWeld 225X. I'm really enjoying it and it does a great job. I may add a water cooler as well at some point and I definitely got to get a #9 tig torch and consumables. All in due time. Thanks so much for commenting and watching my video. I will circle back around to welding video for sure.
You won't be disappointed in the primeweld Tig 225x I've had mine for 3 years now I been very happy with it everyday. I'm a self taught tig welder and I did it originally for me to teach my oldest son how to tig weld on steel as he was wanting to go to school for armory repair. Me and my family were struck by tragedy of him getting sick with covid-19 and passed away on 8-25-2021. I was in a deep spot same situation as you were going between ahp, lotos, primeweld, Everlast and yeswelder 😅😅😅😅 that last one just too damn funny. Watching tfs on YouTube with Justin on there he did a review of it and was very intrigued by it and love the fact that you have no stupid menus to scroll through to make adjustments.... Since I have gotten the Tig machine I have added a Maxcool watercooler and a CK worldwide flex-loc water-cooled torch to my arsenal. Struggling with trying to get out and start a welding repair business Twist of Fate Welding and Fabrication in memory of my son Gavin. That machine will do everything you need to do and then some. I've had some of my welding friends use it they were impressed with the machine and the options that are on it for $800 and how smoothly it welds. There both owners of Miller dynasty 210 and wishing that they would have used one of these before buying one had a board shit the bed and it $1000 from miller and the other is wanting to add a water cooler but it is 2k+ LoL. Keep up your stride with content definitely interested in seeing you do some awesome projects with your Primeweld Tig welder..
Well, I think this is the best tutorial on the 225 on the web . :) I've had this welder for a couple years now and bought the cooler shortly after that and it is a great unit . Looking to get their cut60 pretty soon . The customer support and all is off the charts . I figure that if I need it and Primeweld has it, it'll be a no brainer . Anyway,, I just subscribed and I like your approach to life brother . :)
I’ve been very impressed with my primeweld TIG 225x. I also ended up buying their MiG 180, and the cut 50dp. All have been amazing machines.
I've had very good luck with mine.
I love my primeweld tig 225x. Have been using it daily for almost 3 years now. No complaints. We typically only use it for DC at low amps for welding thin wall titanium (0.028"). Done some stainless, mild, and aluminum on it all with nothing but great things to say.
I have this welder and love it.
100% love this machine, done a lot of mobile welding with it and shop projects
I can build up an edge of 20 Gauge steel (0.030 roughly) and 0.035 filler and the bead is just wider than the base material if that helps.
Welding for over 50 years (mainly TIG, stick, oxy-acetylene), wanted a TIG for my personal use. After a lot of research 3 years ago I was between this machine and an Everlast. Price, quality, and customer service won me over to Primeweld. Got the machine, the Maxcool 3000, and the CK 20 torch with 25’ hoses. Have not regretted it at all. Use the TIG button almost 100% of the time Since that time, a MIG180 and a CUT60 have joined the ranks along with accessories from Primeweld including the 125 cubic foot bottle of argon, up from my previous 80 cubic bottle, dual flowmeter and 25’ hose, 25’ extension chord, 15’ MIG torch, among others. Cannot go wrong with Primeweld.
Button that comes with the machine is an on/off button, either off or at the amperage machine is set at. TIG button (I use one) does the same thing the foot pedal does…..you can vary the amperage as you weld. I use it just about 100% of the time.
Look up kanekid welds. He uses it, exclusively. I also use it, for all metals. I like it and haven't had any issues with it. Would be nice to see 6061 test it out.
I love my 225, haven’t tried the finger switch that comes with it, but foot pedal works good.
I bought a 225 last year on a black friday sale. I got one of your Tig buttons to go with it. I've been happy with it so far. Last time I tigged anything was in like 96 on an old ass Lincoln so I basically started from scratch skill wise. I'm slowly getting the hang of it. Also wanted to say I am enjoying your videos lately with the narration/explanation 🤘🤘
I purchased the TIG225 a little over a year ago. I'm still learning to Tig weld, but I am very happy with this machine. They have great customer service, probably the best I have experienced.
Got the 225 still can’t tac 1/8 aluminum like you in the corners. I keep melting the corners away.
I've had the primeweld 225 for 5 years now, and it's been a flawless machine 👌
It's the best budget option for sure! I use the PrimeWeld225 for TIG mostly for aluminum, it's a great machine, it's actually easier to use than some of the way more expensive machines since all the controls have knobs
I've got a similar welder with the thing switched on the cooling fans sound like a jet engine 😂. It's a 200amp machine with 60% duty cycle @200 amps.
My thoughts as well. It's proving to be a good machine at a great price.
Thanks for the video. I have the Prime Weld Tig 225 ACDCP it is a great welder for ever thing that I need it for.
I got my 225 tig stock I love that machine after not doing any tig for quite a while fired it up made all my settings and made my welds with a little bit of fineness stop and adjust down a little bit. Yah know I have a buddy the is miller only and make all kind of comments about my welder. But I just keep doing my thing. I do t care what he says. Welding 11 gauge steel tubbing.
@HarleyRidinF00L still works like a charm. The only complaint I have is that in stick mode it doesn't detect a stuck stick electrode and toasts the flux on it unless you can get it unstuck in a hurry or pull electrode holder off the electrode, which causes sparks and chars the electrode holder. But in TIG mode it's a charm.
I got to say the welds look good. Funny how we smoke at work and smoke at home 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Your first comment went through on my end, but two comments is better than one haha! Thanks Lance, glad you enjoyed it. I'm really impressed with this PrimeWeld machine. Works great!
It sounds like a annoying mosquito in your ears I use my Tig 225x at 200 hz on aluminum on a lot of my repairs of dog boxes, truck boxes, step bars even on some cast aluminum it keeps the arc tight and focused where I need it. As I always do thank you for the great content and information you have shared with us I wouldn't be interested in Tig welding like I am. It's a enjoyable hobby to have to along with the auto repair I do as my hustle just another service I use. Keep up the amazing work awesome to seeing primeweld Tig welder in the mix in your shop..😊😊😊
I have the PrimeWeld TIG225X and I have no complaints about it. I'm still learning and need to get some more seat time. I've used it to stick weld quite a bit but so far have been more successful in sticking the tungsten to my coupons then filler. Can't blame the welder on user error. Their customer service is awesome. I emailed a question on a Saturday night and it was answered by Sunday morning. I wanted to also say Thanks to Jody for providing us so much helpful information.
My prime weld 225 has been flawless for years as a home hobbyist. Best $800 I ever spent.
Ive had my 225 for two years now, and i weld aluminum with no cooler just fine . Don't be fooled , this welder is great for aluminum and stainless as well as the other steels... No cooler necessary, helpful yes but not a necessity .
Give a primeweld Tig 200 for a change and see if they can out work the Miller. I'm running a Tig 225x which is not as portable as the 200 but it is going strong for me 2 1/2 yrs 8hrs a day.
Very good unbiased review of the machine I can agree with you 100% about the primeweld Tig 225x. I've owed mine for 2 1/2 yrs now I also have the maxcool watercooler and the CK worldwide flex-loc torch FL-230 love it. Aluminum welding is a must have a watercooler a person will never get anything welded together with the air cooled torch. I have a air cooled flex-loc torch I use for SS and titanium, mild steel I run my welding machine for 4-8 hr a day it doesn't skip a beat.
I like the diversion 180 for sanitary welding etc. far as aluminum welding I have a primeweld Tig 225x w/ maxcool watercooler and CK worldwide flex-loc torch pickup for less than $2000 new. Best investment ever I'm like you I do all my car mods myself. I've found using the miller for the aluminum I was having to do dubble passes at times due to not enough amps. Thus the upgrade haven't found anything that I couldn't weld plus the watercooler and water-cooled flex-loc torch is awesome to not burn up my hands anymore.
My previous TIG machine was air cooled.....I vowed that my next machine would be water cooled. Now I have a 225x and Max Cool 3000 - it is a great setup.
@amcustomfab It's funny Alex, I have every upgrade you got there . I got my 225acdcp about 2 years ago come February, got the stubby lens stuff about a month or two after that, and about four to six months after that got the maxcool and WOW that was an upgrade . Welded so much I went to a 250 bottle lol . Oh, and sometime in there I got a brass ground clamp . I love my welder and would recommend Primeweld to anyone (and have) . Oh, and Gene was/is (if he's still there, been awhile) a great rep for the company too . I don't think there's a bad side to this great company . :)
Old video, but I’m at two years with the 225 and freakin love it. As of two years ago they updated the pedal to a better option too…
😪 I bought my 225x before they started putting an outlet on the back for the water cooler, though I suppose it isn't strictly necessary. Just have to remember to turn on the pump before pressing the pedal. Being just a hobbyist I doubt I'll miss it. Thanks for the other suggestions though. Really appreciate your videos.
Great job on the information. Same addition I did to my setup i was looking for a 300+ amp welder for all of the 5\8 aluminum I was welding added the cooler and the flex-loc torch solved all the problems I had. Don't get me wrong I'll probably be upgrading to the 325x in the future I'm still unsure of the micro processer of the machine always have trouble with computers big fan of analog. Haven't had any troubles out of my 225x and might run until it gives up on me.
Jodi I can say that I'm going on 3 years of using my primeweld tig225x everytime I fire up my machine up I get a smile from ear-to-ear. I am not here to boast and brag about everything that I have been switching between two different take torches I have a water-cooled FL230 and I have an air-cooled FL250 and on the back side I also have my steel and stainless steel TIG torches
I bought this welder when it first came out. I've fallen out of the industry and the need to weld often. Everytime I flip it ON it welds like a dream! Way better than me. Thanks for all your videos & sharing your knowledge. I shared Your vids on Ti with all my buddies that ask why I don't weld it.
In your testing what you're doing how you said you like the 300 amp better the reason being is that the arc is much more stable in the 300 compared to the other ones. I find that between my primeweld tig225x and my cheap Chinese suseme mts 200 doing sanitary welding.
@Josh Swider it did, they got me one. I love it
I bought this machine recently, and it is a huge upgrade. I lucked up with you doing videos on the settings of my exact machine!
Thsnk you Jodi. I got myself an AC tig machine late last year after havibg played arpubd woth a scratch start to learn the basics. Managed to get some passable welds after just an hour of playing around with it and referring back to your videos to see what i needed to adjust. Built myself a what i consider a pretty decent custom designed luminium bait board for my boat. I still dip the tungston pretty often but every now and then i lay an almost perfect stack of dimes and i think yeah, this is cool. Thanks man
I use $10k Millers at work, at home I use the primeweld tig225x, and honestly I prefer the primeweld. Only thing I really don't like about it is the stick welding capabilities. It doesn't run stick well at all imo.
After watching Justin's review, I purchased this machine in Jan 2022 and I have no regrets! This is a great beginner machine and a great value; my machine included the new pedal upgrade. I've MIG and stick welded for many years but this is my first experience with TIG. Thanks to Justin's fantastic videos and the quality of this machine, I learned quickly and my results are very good. I'm learning every day and having fun doing it as I've become the whole neighborhood's resource for little welding favors!
All those features that you described on the AC side a lot of the people that are getting into doing TIG welding don't understand what those features are and what they do. Me I understand what they do and I know what the reaction to aluminum is even though I have a primeweld Tig 225x and mine only welds on the square wave I don't see the use for all the features that that Miller gives my welder has enough features to do what I need to do in general purpose of welding aluminum. But don't get me wrong if you're doing aluminum manufacturing all those features will come in handy depending on what your manufacturing out of aluminum.
I bought it last week mainly to tig aluminum but I welded stick for 45 years and let me tell you this , it welds better in stick mode than almost any machine I have used ,. I had a job on my skid steer the hydraulic tank was leaking at its base I drained the tank and tipped it so the oil would go away from my weld . I ran a few passes of 6011 then I finished it with 1/8” 7018 . No more leak and it was in a hard to get at spot . Plenty of heat at 120amps burned it in nice . Very pleased with this machine so far
I love mine. Having bought it from Amazon, I would have an easy 30 day return if I didn't like it. I torture tested it as soon as it arrived. DC stick welding 3/4", 5/8", 3/8" plate. I went thru 4 ten pound boxes of 1/8" & 5/32" rods, only once did I hit the duty cycle. Passed the test as far as I was concerned. Aluminum welding was a breeze. I made the mistake of buying one of the yellow Tigs for half the price, it lasted maybe one hour of light aluminum welding and just stopped. It was not worth the time and shipping costs to bother with. The Prime Weld 225 is a beast!!! Thanks for your review, well done!
My PrimeWeld story. I decided I was going to learn how to tig weld. After doing my research I decided on the Prime Weld 225. It sat in the box for 4 months until I finally was ready to focus on learning. I set it up and started practicing. After 2 days the regulator flow ball was not working properly, the ball sat at the bottom no matter what I did. Miffed, I switched out the regulator from my mig welder and started practicing again. I sent an email to primeworld customer service and told them about my experience. I couldn't find my receipt, I really figured I was just going to need to buy another one because it had been so long, my fault for not inspecting things quicker. Much to my surprise, customer service found my original purchase paperwork, asked me a couple more details about my regulator to confirm it was dead and not me using it wrong (I took no offense to that, it's entirely possible). Then they shipped out a brand new one completely free of charge! Prime Weld showed me that customer service is not dead! Since that time I have learned to tig well reasonably well and I use it nearly every day. It's a great machine, I'm extremely happy with it, Prime Weld has a customer for life. There you go, that's my story.
I bought this machine last week, love it…
Where is your water cooler? Me personally I don't have a Miller or Lincoln or a 3sab I ended up going with a primeweld Tig 225x I also have the maxcool 3000 water cooler and I run a flex lock FL 230 water cooled TIG torch had the machine now for a little over a year flawless everything I throw at it takes it. Now far as my MIG welding goes I still have my first multiprocess welder that I learned on it's a susemse MIG -255 straight out of China. I used it because it was a multi-process to teach myself how to TIG weld I learned how to make and stick from out of high school. And I can say this is my second and third welder I've ever had and I'm in my late 40s. But I can definitely say I had gentlemen who have dynasty 250s and big Lincolns and they say that the primewell weld right up there with them on AC and DC.
I bought this welder last year based on the recommendation in this video. I have to say I am very impressed with PrimeWeld. They are high quality machines. I have the mig, tig and plasma and they all work as advertised.
Tim I do have to say you're absolutely correct me I started off the same way I bought a susemse mig 255 from Amazon for $350 I was using that welder for a year and a half teaching myself how to TIG weld. then once I was comfortable enough I ended up with a prime weld Tig 225x which is double the money of what my first one was and now I'm happy with this TIG welder that I do have and I even added the maxcool 3000 water chiller with a water cooled TIG torch flexloc 230 and now it means all my demands and uses that I needed to do.
The two processes to look at for aluminum are MIG and TIG welding. MIG is good if you are doing a whole lot of the same joint, because it is faster. However, it takes some messing with to get the settings dialed in on MIG, so it's not awesome for one off stuff. MIG generally requires a spool gun and is also a pain for aluminum under 1/8" thick. I almost always use TIG for aluminum. TIG is great because it can be used on very thin to thick material and it is very controllable. In order to TIG weld aluminum, you'll need an AC/DC machine. TIG is also nice because the same machine can weld pretty much any metal with the same shielding gas, straight argon. MIG requires different gasses for different materials. Most likely, TIG is going to be the way to go for you. I have videos on TIG basics and Aluminum TIG on the channel which may be helpful. Wow, this is getting long, so I better actually get to the answer of your question :) As far as machines go, the price range will be higher than the stick machines in this video. Check out the Primeweld TIG 225X. It is a great entry level machine near the low end of the price range. I have one and it works very well. The machine comes with a CK torch (which is the best in my opinion), a great quality pedal and they have great customer service and stand behind their machines. It's not the only good option, but one that I have had a good personal experience with.
No have not had that happen. I have burnt up a torch but it was because I was running 225 amps on aluminum for an extended period of time. But I've never had those torches get warm under 140 amps
@Хохлычернозём I definitely been having my eyes on the can of welds I watch Dusty at Pacific arc welding and I kind of like that 201 I think he has but it's a TIG machine I already got my chineseium susemse mig-255 for my multiprocess and I got a primeweld tig 225x with the maxcool 3000 water cooler and a CK flexloc 230 I put six to eight hard hours on the machine every day and it works like a charm takes a beating and keeps on ticking.
I've always had or worked with at a job ect Lincoln transformer tigs I personally started on a old square wave 175 pro then I moved up to a Lincoln precision 275 (about the best available at the time) well long story short got into doing a different type of work for almost 10 years Well I decided to start welding again and I didnt have 6-10k to jump into a "pro level" red blue or yellow welder... so many weeks later I decided to buy the primeweld 225x tig.... I'm absolutely shocked how capable a machine it is!! It literally does everything (a little more actually) than my precision 275 that was almost 10k ..and the primeweld was under a 1000 bux to my door!! Name brand torch (ck17flex) good pedal heavy duty ground cable and clamp... I'm just shocked!!! I'm not trying to advertise for them or anything lol but I just cant get over it ... makes me want to look into a Lincoln aspect inverter tig now lol
one thing I can say man awesome of you to do a good review like that not too many people know about gen 1 and Gen 2 on the primeweld tig 225x. and I would definitely agree with you with the water cooler I have the max cool 3000 water cooler definitely what you said I have the air-cooled flex lock that I was using on my TIG machine and when I got the water cooler I got the number 20 that came with it and I also ordered a water cold flex lock. I have definitely noticed that the water cooler with the water cooled flex lock torch has open that machine up to Infinity my weld times are so much longer I could be on my machine for an hour and a half two hours welding straight in the torch not even get hot. and far as like customer service goes I had to use mine too I had the same problem on the AC side The high frequency was not wanting to start on the AC side no matter what I did and they ended up sending me out a new machine shipping all taken care of shipping me out a new machine I ship them back the other machine I was up and going in 2 days.
Just got mine yesterday. Going to buy the cart tomorrow and the gas Monday. Can't wait to get started. I have been impressed so far with what I have seen this machine do.
Quick question I got this machine today only able to run on 120. Will do 240 tomorrow but on aluminum when I initiated the arc it would stutter for like a second and a half and then pinpoint in and almost go to full amperage get really hot puddle and then cool down I don’t know if you ran into that at all or have any advice on that. Wasn’t able to just start low amps and work in to the puddle. Once I got into the weld it ran great just the start was really hot. Barley any peddle. 110 amps. 1/8 aluminum. Thx
I have this machine . It’s an amazing welder
@autodidacticartisan so far so good, I've learned a few things about welding aluminum but need to have a tutor or a class to get over the hump. The welder and torch work great and the manual is well written. If you're on the fence, I'd buy it again for sure.
I was looking at the Yes Welder and the rabble of other Amazon cheap welders. Saw this review and spent some time checking it out. I don’t spend money lightly ( cheap f…), but pulled the trigger. It arrived in less than 2 weeks across the border to Canada!! Packaging was flawless and was excited to get going ( hadn’t done any welding in over 40 years - TIG welding is on my bucket list!! Never having used tig before I had major trouble getting to work….. turns out the foot pedal was pooched from the get go. I hooked up the finger trigger and amazingly was welding ( not pretty but first time they looked like welds !!! Anyway. 1 email and a brand new foot pedal arrived within the week ( again to Alberta Canad ) Worked perfect and they said ‘ just keep the old one for parts’. It’s been awesome in every way. Great company and service.
Same with my primeweld 225...can't stand that fan!!!
I would still pick this one. Mine still works great, and their customer service is excellent. One of my good friends just bought one and it had a little trouble with the arc start. They sent him a new one immediately, no questions asked. The accessories are also as good as any other you might consider.
I have the Titanium 200 also, today's date is January like the 5th 2022 so I know this is a little bit older but at the time I have mine maybe 3 or 4 years it's the older style like yours is which I like much better better, than newer one they just came out with . as far as the machine goes I have it. I have a couple machines different brands Primeweld Weld 180 miG and Primeweld 225 tig , and some other machines Lincoln 140, Prime world plasma cutter 60 I love it but I really like this it's not a bad machine for the money , I've had no problems I haven't about 3 to 4 years maybe and never had an issue with it I hope you enjoyed what's yours . The reasons I got the Primeweld is the tig in the 200 works I just fine for Scratch start . I wanted a foot pedal and a better torch you can't add on to that By the way I did have a problem with it not really a problem the Regulator I couldn't get it to work quite right so I got another one right away off Amazon that's really the only issue I really had with it may have been me though I use a predator 9000 generator I'll buy machines they work fine no problem on the 9,000 The privator generator only has a 30 amp to 220 on my 9000 you can get 50 app which I highly recommend if you can get one then you get more power out of the machine When I open mind the 1st thing I do was stick it works fantastic with the stick then I put them in the middle and I didn't flex score worked fantastic then I went and got my bottle I got the big going and I'll tell you what I was impressed the tape worked fine I just want the food but I would highly recommend this machine for the money it's not bad but you can get better deals If you buy this machine you'll do alright
2 years later and I can confirm, the same outcome! I bought my machine last week and been using it this week, thank god It comes with different stuff now, especially the foot peddel.
🙋 Hi I have this 200 for 2 yrs + works great. Also when to Primeweld now with I do like much beer. The thing I don't like is the TIG . No foot petal ! Can't put one on 👎 I do have the spool gun also. Never used it let. I thing Primeweld is so much more for the money 3 yrs on the warranty a big + H/ F 1 yr. You buy thr rest from H/F . Primeweld and H/ F so much more for Primeweld than you get from H/F + you got to try there 225 Tig wow great A/C D/C Tig . Foot pedal plus and lots more I payed about $700 for it . Also have the Primeweld plasma cuter 60 about $ 650 wow great cutter also setup for cnc which I have on a CNC TABLE WORK GREAT. One it's a better cutter and cheaper. But I would not put out H/F , there are not to bad , I do like mine too, one thing try out sick welding on it , I was surprised. Wow work great Great welds on sick and Mig . I Leaning Tig right now on my Primeweld 225. For now. YOU will like the H/F but it's not that cheep . I hope it holes up , The thing I worried about it sitting out in the cold cold shop at times for weeks , just got out hospital, was not in my shop for 5 months. It's cold , do these things like cold ? I hope you enjoy your 200 and last forever ❤ and all good things come from it ! God Bless 🙏 you all and A MERRY XMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR 🙏
@TimWelds yeah that would have probably been smart. But instead i disassembled it and attached the potentiometer to my torch to try n still have amp control instead of that friggin instant 0 - 100 clicker. It worked about as good as u wld think. Seeing as how it was faulty to start with
Bummer…I’m sure they’ll replace it. Mine has had a lot of use without any issues.
I love my primeweld. But the foot pedal is crap. I got maybe 10 minutes of tigging before it gave up the ghost
Most of of the time I. Running it on 110 I only plug it in to 220 if I need to weld 1/4" or biger 😎
Oh boy!!I I love mine ..monte
@ajg4542 FWIW I thought the same thing. And then realized combo rigs do maybe one or no things really well. I bought the Vulcan OmniPro220 when it first came out, and I run it hard a a MIG machine (& love it). But it's not a great TIG machine and stick is just ok. Plus switching gas and leads is a pain, especially back and forth within the day. I'm really glad I bought the PrimeWeld 225X for TIG. First machine was DOA, bu they were easy to talk with on the phone and sent replacement machine immediately, which runs perfectly. Hope this info helps. Best, Andrew @BranchAndFoundry
I got mine 3 months ago and it came with the better peddle, and it is nice
@ohiomapleguy Yup. I'll run it up to 120, but she tends to sag out doing that. It's a fillet between 5/8" rebar and the corner castings on cargo containers. 98A will liquify the ends of the rebar. I forget what my voltage is set at.
Needs to be at 20amps. A 15amp 110 volt will trip the breaker, mine does anyways.
I bought one month's ago and sold my miller 165,, prim weld is way more smoother and cheaper and cleaner welds
Bought a Primeweld. Super erratic. Called them, they said it was a AC Board problem. They sent a replacement, DOA. I'm getting my money back.. now looking at the SquareWave.
I have owned this machine for over a year and it truly is everything they say it is and I am not paid .
I tig welded utility knife razor blades with mine it worked great.
I’ve had this machine for over a year and no problems or complaints. This machine Rocks ! A million thanks to Justin and his great videos, with his help I am now able to tig weld aluminum 🇺🇸
To the OP, I have the exact same machine as you do and run it on a 40amp circuit. I haven’t had any problems as of yet and have run it at its highest settings. I would assume that a 30amp circuit would be enough but there are many factors that play into the equation that is your question. I believe that the machine that you have is capable of running on 110 volts but at half it’s capable output. Welding machine power supplies are often under sized from what you would generally think they would be. For instance a have a Millermatic 250 that has always had a far to small cord on it. I’ve tried to weld constant for long periods just to see if the cord got hot but haven’t ever noticed it even getting warm. A few electricians I’ve talked to have muttered something about using the duty cycle of the machine to mathematically downsize a welding machines power supply circuit. In the end there are a bunch of correct answers to your question and there are ways that wouldn’t be recommended but will still work depending on what you want to do with your machine. For you and your home/shops safety I’d recommend a getting 50amp circuit to use. 50 amps probably Isn’t necessary to run your machine but you’ll then have it should you ever need a bigger circuit. Prime weld won’t answer your question because they don’t want to be liable and I don’t blame them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I use a Harbour Freight generator 9000 works great on 110. Or 220 great machine I love mine. ❤
Nope still running strong and I use it almost daily
Bought one of these two years ago and have nothing but positive things to say about it. Your review is one of the best I’ve seen on this welder btw, great job!
This video is the reason I bought this welder and my first big task was welding Ford 9" housing ends on a Ford 8.8 axle. I did just find that CK-17 torch doesn't like 225a for long though. haha Great video!
It’s still great! I still use it, but less often than my Dynasty because I’ve been in the habit of using it for so long. The Primeweld hasn’t let me down any time I’ve fired it up, though.
I have the exact machine and very pleased with it. I haven't even used all the capabilities, but it is way more capable then I am presently. Thumbs Up!
I primarily use the 110 plug just because it's closer in my shop to where I keep the welder. But with the 110 plug your limited to 140 amps so if I have to weld something larger I will move the welder closer to my 220 plug and use that
I own one and its been great thus far. I'm a rookie but this thing makes me look like semi-pro...thanks PrimeWeld!
@michaelparks1887 You can for stick welding, there are several methods for starting stick, but the Primeweld only has HF start for Tig welding, that's one feature it's lacking. Often Tig welders will use scratch start, or lift start Tig when doing automobile work, and the Primeweld 225 doesn't do that. You can still do automobile work with HF start Tig, you just need to disconnect the computer to avoid damage. Some people say you can use HF if the Tig welding is not too close to the computer, but I have never Tig welded on an automobile to date, so not sure. I think to be safe, disconnecting the computer would be the safest if using HF start. As to stick welding on the Primeweld, there's really not much to it as the only control you have is the amps. I was able to run 6010, 6011 and 7018 all on DCEP, and you could always run 6011 on AC if needed. There is also a 7018AC which you could run on AC, but I had little issues running 6010, 6011 and 7018 all on DCEP. I have another ESAB Miniarc 180i that is a phenomenal stick welder, so don't really need to use the Primeweld for that, just good to know I can if needed.
Thanks! I've run this machine quite a bit since the video and it's yet to let me down.
My PrimeWeld arrived late last week. So far I am impressed. I am enjoying the HF start. Over the weekend I worked in DC only finishing up some stainless welds on a personal project. I hope to venture out later this week with aluminum and some pulse settings. The CK 17 torch is SWEET!!!! I have already set it up with my Furick #8 clear cup. I appreciate everyone's opinion.
I purchased the Primeweld this spring and have no complaints or regrets. So far, I have run through 2.5 tanks of argon and have had some success on aluminum. Unfortunately , about the time I start getting cocky and think "I've got this" , I end up making a mess . I have found that once you get a handle on aluminum , DC mild and stainless tig are almost easy. Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk
It’s pretty great. Used it several times over the past week.
Nice video. I just purchased one of these machines and I'm very impressed with it. Looking forward to more content on this welder.
if you read the manual it say's on 240 volts you need a 50 amp breaker and on 120 volts you need a 30 amp curcuit , i have one, i only use the 120 volt side if i want to use the stick function and like a long 12 ga extention cord outside my shop, it is a great machine for 800.00
I was pretty amazed on the stick, the Primeweld 225 was able to run 6011 and 6010 for me in addition to 7018. I don't consider myself to be a great stick welder, but the Primeweld was able to burn what I tossed at it. I have another stick welder that has Hot Start and Arc Force settings, but knowing the Primeweld can burn most of the common rods I would throw at it was a definite plus. I have not seen anyone unhappy with this machine, nor have I seen any complaints that needed to get a replacement sent out or even a single warranty issue. Mike and Dustin are very easy to deal with also. Since I was using a CK 17 Flexhead torch previously, all of my consumables transferred right over.
I just ran out to the shop and tried it with a 6013; definitely works. It felt a bit different than a buzz box, but the arc was smooth and the bead came out really nice. Could be a good option for a job where arc blow (magnetic fields messing with the puddle) is a problem.
Thanks! I'm having a blast with it!
Thanks! I'm really impressed so far and I haven't found anything it can't do that my $4k machine can do.
I bought a primeweld 225 ac/dc tig machine. 800 bucks on Amazon. 3 year warranty. Pulse for ac or dc. Comes with a ck worldwide(best in the business) torch. It welds smooth and clean. I love it. The fabrication series has a review on it that sold me.
Manufacturer does recommend 30 amp circuit but I've been running it up 20 and have had no problems
Factory specs recommend 30 but I'm running on a 20 amp breaker and have not had any problems
I have the original foot pedal on the primeweld and can still weld great. I just turn it backwards.
I have the primeweld and love it.
I had to send one back after 1 year of use. No questions asked. Fantastic experience.
I had a Hobart MIG Welder bought for me as a Christmas Present decades ago now. I use it a heck of a lot more then I would have ever thought. And to this very day, it works flawlessly. And I have never ever welded even one thing before that. But MIG is so easy to pick up that a novice can make very good welds in short time. And the more you weld, the better you get. Each welding type has it's place. Since then I also bought a Prime Weld TIG225X. That is an amazing machine very well worth the money for sure!
You can buy the better pedal from Primeweld for 99 bucks. Those soft touch buttons get corrupted more easily. I bought the Primeweld. Better value for the buck,. 3 yr warranted 24/7 service. Mine welds great for what I bought it for. Sheet metal and aluminum sheet.
I have an old 200dx, but my mate has a new 280dx. I have used the PrimeWeld and it’s just fine. I’d wager that more folks never use 80% of the features of their welder. I would also expect that the Dynasty and HTP rate as “pro” boxes that you really only need if you’re doing a variety of technically difficult work and code specific jobs. You also need to setup your welder when you get it. Case in point, the Dynasty has several preset variables that you probably want to alter for optimum results, like arc start amperage, preflow, wave form, etc. Spend the time and read the manual. You’ll find a huge amount of information. I have not used an HTP, but I dare say, the new Dynasty and Maxstar machines are an unbelievably butter smooth arc. Even the stick machines are unreal compared to machines from 5 years ago. Will a newbie welder notice? Not likely. But someone who has decades of helmet time will, but also may not even care having had to learn to weld with a frying pan and rebar.
Alan, I started this post when looking for a new TIG welder, I have since acquired the Primeweld 225X and have had it for about a month and am very happy with it. I am only going to speak to 2 of your questions in this reply. First, since the 225x is a DV machine the power cord is about the same size and gauge as a heavy duty 12ga. extension cord, so even though I have not measured the working in-rush current, the assumption is that it does not exceed 20 amps. If anyone knows different please jump in. Second, the fan noise does not seem loud to me, it is less that my Lincoln TIG welder and way less than my ESAB MIG welder. Randy
The primeweld Tig 225ACDCP is a good welder for the price. I like it over my HTP 221 because I can see at a glance were my settings are. I like my 221 for the low amp capabilities and some of the other settings, but you have to go through the hole menu to set everything. The 225 will weld 6010 and 7018 well, but you have to understand these welders are made to do tig welding. Yes they stick weld but they lack the big transformers need for stick welding. Also most people don't need to use 6010 or 7018 as these are for code work.
I also went and bought one based on the feedback of several YouTube channels. I have tried it on automotive sheet metal and find it more configurable than my Lincoln Square Wave 175 Pro. I have yet to try it on AL, which is why I bought it in the first place, but plan to get to it today actually. I will post my findings after some more weld time on the machine.
I just bought one of these over Thanksgiving. I'm new to TIG and don't have a ton of hours on it, but it is certainly doing the trick for me. I chose it over some of the others because of the review that The Fabrication Series gave it. My welding instructors at Lincoln think it's a nice machine as well. (shhhh! don't tell anyone. )
Reviewerer so far I have no complaints about the primeweld. I’ve used miller synchro waves and dynasty’s and this has just as many adjustments and lays as clean as a bead as either
Thank you Justin. This review was the kicker for me to order the Primeweld 225x. Very happy with it so far. Total newbie to TIG and haven't killed it yet. It definitely comes with a better pedal now
I have one myself and absolutely love it. Super smooth! I was have some trouble with the stick settings and primeweld forwarded me the number of the guy that tested the machine and was super helpful. I've even had to use this machine at work. Can't recommend enough.
@msand951 Finally got my gas hooked up and used it today. Not a TIG expert but it definitely shot some fire out of the torch, so I'd say rock and roll
Just got one last month. Its great. Better pedal now so only gripe is the fans, but who cares if it welds great?
Glad I bought one when I had the chance. The machine, ck torch and the customer service is awesome
This is the machine I bought after researching everything I could find online. I absolutely love this machine. I’m glad to see another reputable review on it. After upgrading the foot pedal it really is a great machine. It’s a far better welder than I am!
Got mine a week ago and was actually very impressed with the packaging. I suck at welding still and am learning how to use all the settings but the machine works great so far.
Got mine a week ago off the bay 775.00 love it FINALLY A REVIEW ON THE TUBE arron at 6061 has one but did a 6061 vid short and sweet but you just showed me ton about the machine thank god !!!!!started running beads while your vid was going thanks agin!!!!!! glad i got a good one !!!!!!!!!
